Trac Lights in Children's Area

We are now turning on the track lights by the "1000 Club" sign and the bag books.
To turn them on and off, you need to get access to the Mechanical room next to the Teen alcove.
Dana sent a post to the ref blog about which switch is which, but I'd like you to get with me before you work your next evening shift in Children's so I can go through this with you.
I'll be more comfortable if I show you myself. My dad was an electrician, so I was raised with elevated level of respect for all things electrical.

Checking out Videos/DVD's at Youth Ref desk

We now have 2 magnetic "keys" to unlock Videos/DVD's with cases. If you don't know how to use them, let me know before your next turn at the desk and I'll show you how it's done. The red plastic "keys" removed from cases should be returned to the Circ desk at the end of your shift.
Also, remember to check inside the Video's/DVD's and Computer Software case to make sure it contains the correct discs. DVD's and Computer Software with out locked cases can and should be be "bopped" before giving them to the patron.
As always, let me know if you need more info or have any questions.

INTER LIBRARY LOAN SLIPS

FYI, I have placed some ILL forms in the top drawer of the small file cabinet by the Children's ref desk, under the black organizing tray. We need to keep some of these at Child's Ref all the time. Please leave them there till we find a better place to put them. If we are running low or are out of these forms, please get more copies from Janet's desk.

MAGAZINES

Remember, when you are working at the desk, you are responsible for shelving magazines. I have noticed someone leaving magazines in the page shelving area. Just remember if you see magazines there, please shelve them in the correct place. If you're not sure where that is, please let me know.

End of shift straightening

I forgot to mention that the YA section falls under Children's Dept for picking up and straightening at end of shift. For now, the YA books go on a cart in Ref Office. See me or ask at Ref Desk if you're not sure where the cart is located.

Unattended desk

Please don't forget to shut and lock Patricia's office door if there will be no one at the desk for an extended period of time (more than a few minutes).

HUMIDIFIER

FYI Rick has installed a humidifier in the Children's office. Try to make sure you turn it off at end of the day. Whoever arrives first can turn it on if they wish.

ENTERING PURCHASE REQUESTS

Something else I forgot to mention.
When you enter a purchase request, please put your initials in the "Selection Note line," along with your resource (catalog) or reason for ordering the item.
This helps me keep track of who's ordering what and why.
Thanks,
Patricia

END OF SHIFT REF DESK DUTIES

Just a reminder in case I already told you this.
At the end of your shift at the desk, please straighten books on shelves, push in chairs, put books found in the "Please put items to be shelved in this cart" cart in page sorting area, pick-up realia/toy area and log off the ref desk computer. This applies to any end of shift at the desk, not just at closing.

I understand that if you have patrons needing assistance up to the end of your shift that is not a closing time, you may have to hand this work off to the next person. Please let the next person know you didn't have a chance to pick-up. This is a rare occurrence, so I would be expecting the end of shift work to be finished the majority of the time.

To keep this from pilling up on you, you'll want to do a little straightening throughout your shift. I find this a nice break from staring into the computer.

Since check-out closes 10 minutes before the doors are lock, there should be plenty of time to straighten and take care of loose books. Loose books include any books in the stacks that are laying on top of books, stuck at the end of a shelf, on top of bookshelf or left on the tables and chairs. I usually start straightening after I hear the "30 minutes to close" warning over the speakers.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Game Stats

Please disregard my long posting about Game Sign in and Ref Stats.
The Ref Question sheet is being changed (manually for now) so the Directional is divided into Game and Non Game Reference.

Thanks for the idea, Margaret and Nancy!!
